    I've seen comments that you need to spend some real cash on the game to progress. Warframe's f2p model is probably the best I've seen but it requires crazy grinding but rewards you with progress.

    So, for the people who have played the closed alpha, how is the progression in the game, is there a point where it's impossible to progress?

    Well, Fortnite isn't (at this time) a F2P, so yes, once the game goes live, you will need to spend some real cash (as in, buy a copy) to progress. ;)

    Beyond that - no, there's no need to throw down money on buying more and more piñata llamas, but some people will anyway. You can get some amazing llamas from just playing the game. I got a special reward llama last night for reaching Lv. 13 in the Collection Book (a method of usefully getting rid of duplicate or no-longer-used crafting schematics and people) that upgraded itself twice, resulting in a final loot-splosion of somewhere around 24 items, none of them LESS than Rare.

    alot of people complained in the beta that the games is very grindy. The devs apparently changed that. Not sure if they have or not.

    Grind games are no good. The repetitive scenarios and choices gets you bored. Fortnite should have addressed such a situation with its development time. Lots of upgrades, hopefully lots of game modes and player freedom as well.

    There's lots of game modes in the game. I've only reached the second "tier" of maps before the wipe, but I've already experienced:

    * Home defense
    * Two other types of base defense
    * Survivor saving/recruiting (no base construction necessary)
    * Monster hunting (No base construction)
    * Payload Delivery (with base defense)
